Schliemann's parents and siblings

Heinrich's father, E r n s t Johann Adolph Schliemann, born in 1780 in Gresse (Mecklenburg), had been a Protestant pastor since 1814 in the small country town of Neubukow, near the Baltic Sea. The family tree of the family can be traced since the beginning of the 17th century in Wismar and on the island of Poel.
Ernst Schliemann had attended the grammar school in Altona and had become a teacher there, at the gates of Hamburg. In the interest of a secure supply, he had taken up the study of theology in Halle/Saale. After this degree, he became deputy rector in Sternberg (Mecklenburg) at the age of 31. Here he met Heinrich's mother, L o u i s e Therese Sophia Bürger, the daughter of the rector, the later mayor of Sternberg. He married the 13 years younger woman in 1813, and from this marriage, nine children were born. Heinrich was born in 1822 as the fifth child. In 1838, the father married a second time.

"Like all or almost all the pastors, my father had nine children and no money..." H.S., America diary (1850/51)
